Pandemic JFK

How the Landscape of New York City Airports has Changed in Response to the Coronavirus Pandemic

In 2020 the coronavirus pandemic changed our world forever and no single industry has been more deeply impacted than our airlines. March saw a decline of nearly 2 million domestic travelers passing through TSA checkpoints, with a reduction of approximately 2.5 million (2019) to approximately 450,000 in 2020. These figures became more dire in April and May when approximately 100,000 daily travelers passed through TSA checkpoints, compared to 2.2 million in 2019.

The landscapes within our airports have become abandoned — due to air travel bringing you in close contact with other people.
